The Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) is the national leading body for drinking water supply and waste management in the country except Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chittagong cities.

DPHE, along with its development partners, has been trying to mitigate suffering due to the lack of safe water, given the challenges arising from the discovery of arsenic in the growing region since its first detection in the 5th. Alternatives to safe water supply are being diverted to the worst affected areas.

Similarly, DPHE is implementing various projects to achieve better environment for managing excreta and other waste.
DPHE was founded in 1936.
